Chain O'Lakes Trails Photos

We started our Chain O'Lakes ride at the Grant Woods forest preserve entrance of of Monaville (between Grand Ave and Fairfield Road). Monaville Road runs east and west and separates the northern and southern parts of the Chain O'Lakes (COL) Trail. The photo above is in the northern part of the trail which we rode first.

The photo above is in the tall pine tree area in the northern part of the COL Trail. This is just before you go down a fairly steep hill.

This photo is still in the tall pines area which was actually one of my favorite parts of the trail. I did a vertical photo to try to capture how the tall trees looked in this area.

The trail winds through the woods here. There are also some more rugged dirt and grass trails that connect to the main trail in this area. This is near the grass trail that goes out to the village park on Fairfield Road where we originally tried to get on the trail.

That is my Tour Easy recumbent riding friend up in the distance. The Chain O'Lakes (COL) Bike Path is pretty much all crushed stone and was in pretty good shape at the time of this ride (June, 2014). 

This was one of the bridges in the more wooded part of the COL trail as we started heading back to Monaville Road and to the southern part of the trail.

 

It is really nice to be able to go under Monaville Road rather than having to cross it. As far as I'm concerned, the more bike trail tunnels and/or bridges that help to avoid crossing roads, the better.  The photo above is the tunnel as we were heading south.

I then turned around to get a view of the tunnel as seen when you are heading into the northern part of Grant Woods. After passing through the tunnel (heading south) we rode the southern part of the COL trail through Grant Woods.
